I'm taking a short break this afternoon from moving, unpacking, cleaning, what's going into my new "digs", so I thought I'd post some info many of you will be interested in. It's regarding the articles Dick Bagley wrote back in the early 1980's for Live Steam magazine....
As mentioned in a few of my previous postings, I have been in the process of moving into the mobile home I bought to put on the property until/if/when/ I can, in a couple years, build a house on the site. Moving has been an ongoing operation for the past couple of months, while actual clearing, grading, and infrastructure work of the home site started this past January. Not enough hours in a 24-hour day, but I digress.....
I have only a couple of boxes stored locally of what's left of my books and drawings. One of the boxes that I opened the other night contained the xeroxes I made some 25-years ago to backup Dick's Live Steam articles.
For those of you who have shown interest in looking up Dick's articles, I have compiled a list by date and title. I highly recommend, if you have never read them, that you look them up. Lots of useful information from the "Master"....
11/1981 - An Easy To Build Oil Burner (NOTE: Article details how to build the famous Bagley oil burner)
01/1982 - Oil Firing a Miniature Locomotive
08/1982 - Freight Car Trucks
09/1982 - Mechanical Lubricator
10/1982 - Locomotive Turret
11/1982 - A Little Helpful Hint
01/1983 - The Care and Operation of Your Locomotive
02/1983 - Brakes (NOTE: How to build the Bagley brake valve)
06/1983 - Freight Car Brakes
07/1983 - Smokebox Throttle (NOTE: Article also includes the Bagley steam dome throttle)
10/1983 - For Your Oil Burner A Pilot Light
12/1983 - Quick Opening Injector Valve
01/1984 - Some Interesting Details.... The Smokebox (NOTE: Smokebox internals.... Exhaust, Blower, Stack, etc.)
02/1984 - A Butterfly Firedoor
06/1984 - A Quick Opening Blowdown Valve
The 06/1984 article is the last one Dick wrote for Live Steam and was published shortly after his death.
I would highly recommend the Oil Burner, Throttle, Smokebox, Mechanical Lubricator, and Brake Valve articles. For those of you fairly new to the hobby, look at the Oil Firing, and the Care and Operation articles.
Info for those of you who have PM'd me, (Loco112, cbrew, etc.). I am not ignoring you.... Only so many minutes in a day for me lately. I will reply as soon as I can.
